HOUSING CO-OP

Kanata Housing Co-op is an 83 unit apartment building located in Scarborough, Ontario. The Co-op is a mixed community of seniors, families and single persons. When a person moves into a unit of the Co-op they become a member of the Co-op. All members of the Co-op have a right to vote and take part in governing their community. The membership meets at least two times per year. Members elect a Board of Directors who work to govern the Co-op according to the needs of the members. The members also meet to approve budgets and receive the audited financial statements. Members are encouraged to get involved with the Board of Directors and Committees in order to become leaders of their community. Members take ownership of the Co-op to develop a truly democratic and diverse community which meets their own needs and expectations
